Commissioning a Painting
Paintings of any subject can be commissioned.
When commissioning a portrait, we'll discuss the subject, setting, pose, wardrobe and other relevant elements.
Many portraits begin with a three-to four-hour drawing and photo session with the subject, which can take place either at your residence or my studio. I can also work from photos that you provide.
After reviewing photos and sketches, we'll decide on the best pose. From there I'll create a sketch of the subject that also shows the overall composition of the painting. When the client approves that sketch, I’ll move on to creating the final painting.
My medium is oil paint on linen canvas. I use premium archival quality materials designed to last for centuries.
While the price of each project is negotiated separately, the estimates below show ballpark figures for typical sizes, (excluding framing costs.)
11 X 14 inches: $1600
16 X 20: 2400
18 X 24: 2800
24 X 30: 3900
30 X 40: 6500
36 X 48: 7900
I require payments in thirds. The first payment is due upon inception, the second when the sketch is approved, and the final payment upon delivery of the completed painting. The price includes minor touch-ups and corrections after the artwork is delivered. Major changes will require additional costs.
It takes roughly two to three months to complete a painting. The length of time varies and is based on several factors, including the size of the painting and my workload at the time.
